Government doesn’t know cost of Net Zero

Campaign group Net Zero Watch says the Government has no idea of the cost of Net Zero. This follows the appearance by Energy Secretary Claire Coutinho on the Camilla Tominey show on GB News on Sunday [1], during which she was repeatedly asked how much the project to decarbonise the economy would cost, and repeatedly failed to offer up even an approximate figure.

Net Zero Watch director Andrew Montford said:

The Government’s apparently inability to say how much Net Zero will cost suggests that they are flying blind. There are no credible cost estimates and there is no cost-benefit analysis. This is a recipe for disaster.

Official estimates of the cost of Net Zero were recently left in disarray after it was revealed that none of the bodies charged with modelling the 2050 energy system had done so correctly [2]. This followed earlier revelations that the CCC’s cost estimate was based on fictional assumptions [3].
