Antarctic sea ice extent has set another record for June. At the end of the month, extent measured 16.284 million sq km, beating the previous record set in 2010 by 370,000 sq km.

Extent has also been well above the climatological norm throughout the last 12 months.

It is a common argument that “all the land ice is melting, thereby causing sea ice to increase”. There is a very easy way to show this is nonsense.
The one place where there is evidence of receding glaciers is the Antarctic Peninsula. As the map above shows, this is the one area where extent is below normal.
Moreover, sea ice concentration is also below normal there, in contrast to most of the rest of the region, where it is substantially above normal.
Finally, global sea ice area remains above normal, where it has been for most of the last year.
