Tony Blair urges Ed Miliband: Don’t be ideological on Net Zero and drill

Sir Tony Blair has accused Ed Miliband of taking an “ideological” approach to net zero and called on him to approve new oil and gas fields in the North Sea to protect households and businesses from energy price shocks.

Open AI shelves plans to invest in the UK due to Net Zero

Ed Miliband's 'mad dash' to Net Zero has led to Open AI shelving plans for a multi-billion-pound investment in Britain.

Green investors risk losing 50% as eco fund winds down

A green investment vehicle that raised more than £1.1 billion from small investors is throwing in the towel, leaving them facing potential losses of 50 per cent or more.

Miliband approves UK’s largest solar farm

Ed Miliband has approved Britain’s biggest solar farm despite objections from nearby residents who likened it to Chernobyl. It will cover seven square miles of farmland in solar panels – an area 10 times greater than London’s Hyde Park – and affect 10 local villages and thousands of residents. Residents claim the loss of prime farmland and the effect on communities is too high a price to pay, but eco-Ed has vowed to “double down” on the Government’s net zero policies.

Drax pulls out of UK climate plan

Another huge blow to Miliband’s green dreams as energy and subsidies giant Drax ditches its bioenergy with carbon capture and storage plans. These were seen as essential to the government’s Net Zero target.

International

Mexico backs fracking

Mexico’s president, a climate scientist, has announced a plan to more than double its natural gas production by exploiting reserves it avoided tapping over environmental concerns.

Europe turns to Russia for gas imports

Europe boosted imports from Russia’s flagship liquefied natural gas project in the first three months of the year, as the Middle East conflict puts pressure on global supplies.
