UK

Tice warns wind and solar firms over subsidies

Reform UK has told major renewables firms it would cancel subsidy contracts if elected, aiming to deter bids in Labour’s upcoming Allocation Round 7. Richard Tice called the deals “politically and commercially unsafe,” accusing Labour of driving up bills and undermining energy security. The BBC’s Faisal Islam says the intervention “drives a coach and horses” through Miliband’s energy 2030 plans.

Farage tells Reform councils to ditch Net Zero targets

Nigel Farage has told Reform-led councils to scrap local net zero targets, calling them costly distractions. Kent has already cut £40m in green spending; others have axed climate committees. Critics say the move risks derailing UK climate efforts.

Badenoch: Net Zero makes holidays more expensive

Kemi Badenoch warned that Labour’s rush to net zero by 2050 is raising the cost of summer holidays and making Britain more dependent on China. Speaking at the opening of a new arrivals building at Stansted Airport, she criticised plans to raise air passenger duty and said the Conservatives would prioritise affordability for working families.

Labour MPs: Net Zero levies risk UK jobs

Labour MPs Henry Tufnell and Melanie Onn urge Keir Starmer to cut industrial Net Zero levies, warning they threaten UK manufacturing and jobs, especially against lower-cost rivals like China and the US.

International

Netherlands says no to offshore wind

The Netherlands is to abandon the country’s 50GW by 2040 offshore wind target following an assessment of electricity demand growth and ongoing challenges in the offshore sector.

Global oil surge defies Net Zero

Major producers like Saudi Arabia, Iraq, and Brazil, plus newcomers like Guyana and Namibia, are expanding oil output despite climate targets. Even Norway plans high production through 2035, prioritising energy security and economic growth over rapid decarbonisation.

Andrew appeared on Talk TV to discuss the looming triple crisis in energy: soaring prices, grid instability, and the dangerous shortage of firm capacity. He also got a surprise outing on the BBC (albeit only BBC Radio Northampton).

Maurice wrote a piece for Professor Matt Goodwin’s widely read newsletter.

A new report from the Jobs Foundation warns that soaring industrial energy prices are crippling UK manufacturing, shrinking energy-intensive sectors like steel and chemicals, and deterring investment in emerging industries.
