UKMiliband mayhemLabour’s energy plans are causing chaos. The push for EVs is proving disastrous, with Nissan warning thousands of jobs to be lost and Ford cutting hundreds more. The industry is threatening to abandon the UK entirely. As if to proclaim his disdain, Mr Miliband then reintroduced the hated ‘boiler tax’. Meanwhile, the energy price cap rose again, as did inflation. Undeterred, the chancellor told the City of London to focus on climate change. Somewhat late to the party, a top windfarm executive announced that Labour’s plans are not rooted in reality, while Leo McKinstry said that Miliband resembles a cult leader. A jolly in BakuIt emerged that Keir Starmer had taken a 470-strong delegation with him to the COP29 climate conference in Baku. Embarrassment doesn’t seem to be the PM’s strong point though. As if to emphasise this point, he announced a bonus subsidy scheme for windfarms, to be paid on top of their existing handouts. Clearly a billion pounds per month is not enough for the renewables industry. The conference looks set to end in the usual shambles. Shadow boxing from CoutinhoShadow energy secretary hit out at Ed Miliband’s Net Zero plans, but the Conservatives remain committed to decarbonisation. Reform are now close behind them in the polls.
