Cuts: Government Axes Its Own Solar Panel Scheme

A COALITION scheme to cover roofs across the country with solar panels has been scrapped – because of their own cuts.

The Cabinet Office has ditched its plans to put the strips on top of Whitehall and council buildings, hospitals and other land owned by the Tory-led government.

The idea was to heat buildings with clean energy and make money by selling some back to the National Grid.

But it has been scuppered by cuts to subsidies of up to 75% for large projects, unveiled last month.

The Department of Climate Change refused to comment but said the scheme was set up to help smaller projects.
