Plans to decarbonize the United Kingdom’s electric power system lack a basic understanding of physics and threaten to undermine the system.

If we are to decarbonize the economy – so-called ‘net zero’ – we are going to have to electrify everything from the power system, to heating, to transportation. Physics shows the attempt to meet these goals is bound to fail, unless people are willing to forego travelling and numerous advantages and conveniences of modernity.
