Electrifying the UK and the want of engineering

An eminent engineer reviews plans to decarbonise the UK economy and concludes that Net Zero is impossible.

If we are to decarbonize the economy – so-called ‘net zero’ – we are going to have to electrify everything from the power system, to heating, to transportation. Physics shows the attempt to meet these goals is bound to fail, unless people are willing to forego travelling and numerous advantages and conveniences of modernity.
