Paris – Should the French Socialist Party (PS) win next year’s presidential elections, it will lead, at least, to a partial abandonment of nuclear energy generation in France. This is one of 20 proposals in the Socialist Party’s election manifesto published by the Sunday newspaper Le Journal du Dimanche. According to the report, the “energy mix should be reversed as soon as possible.” “Split between supporters and opponents of nuclear power, the Socialist Party this time tends to favour shutting down nuclear power plants,” said the Sunday paper. The election manifesto was approved on Tuesday by the Socialist Party leadership and will be put to a vote by party members of 19 May. The manifesto was prepared under the direction of PS leader Martine Aubry who has been leading the party since 2008.
